The classifieds script allows a website owner to quickly offer a classifieds service to their members.  the information below will help you get your classifieds service up and running quickly.
 

 

Giving members free classifieds access

Steps:

  1. Login to your master admin at www.<yourdomain>.com/cgi-bin/master/Admin.cgi

  2. Go to "Member Config"

  3. Update the "Charging method" to "Free"

Note:  If your charging for other modules such as brochures, then leave the "Charging method" as "Fee Based" and simply enter a "0" price value on the classifieds variables.

Charging members to get classifieds access

Steps:

  1. Login to your master admin at www.<yourdomain>.com/cgi-bin/master/Admin.cgi

  2. Go to "Member Config"

  3. Update the "Charging method" to "Fee Based"

  4. Change the prices/fees that you want to charge next to the classifieds line items

Changing membership fees (if charging)

Steps:

  1. Login to your master admin at www.<yourdomain>.com/cgi-bin/master/Admin.cgi

  2. Go to "Member Config"

  3. Modify the fees associated with each script module (classifieds, etc.)

Configuration Settings

Step:

  1. Login to your master admin at www.<yourdomain>.com/cgi-bin/master/Admin.cgi

  2. Go to Classifieds -> Configuration

Category path separator
*This is what is shown on the visitor's directory separating the main category name with the subcategory name.  Example:  Home: Automotive
Main category name
Show category totals?
Search result order
Search results per page
Number search results?
New ad state
Allow multiple ads with same domain?
Allow multiple ads with same url?
Maximum photo size
Show "Sorry, this category contains no subcategories" message?
Show featured ad across / down
Filter the word for user ad  

(enter the word like badword1:word2:word3:etc)
How many thumbnails per column:
*Note: if the ad has 6 photos and the configuration setting is 3 thumbnails per column, then the ad will show two rows.

Managing Classified Ads

There are three different ad modes as follows:

  • Visible - This mode means that the ad is active and your website visitors and view the ad information.

  • Not Visible - The mode means that the site owner has decided to make the ad not available to the public for whatever reason.

  • Pending - If the site owner has in the configuration settings for all new ads to be in a "Pending" mode, then it will not be shown to the public until the admin manually reviews the ad and accepts it by putting it in a "Visible" mode.

Steps:

  1. Login to your master admin at www.<yourdomain>.com/cgi-bin/master/Admin.cgi

  2. Go to "Classifieds" then click on the "View Pending" link

  3. You will see a status drop down box next to each ad that's in a pending mode.

Adding 3rd party banner code to show banners in ads

You can add 3rd party banner manager software or other scripts to your member's ads.  You will want to modify any of the templates found under the sections of "Visitor Pages" on the classifieds customizing page located here.

Creating custom categories

You can easily create your own unique custom categories by doing the steps below. 

Step:

  1. Login to your master admin at www.<yourdomain>.com/cgi-bin/master/Admin.cgi

  2. Go to "Classifieds" then click on the "Category Manager" link

  3. You can edit the name by clicking "edit" next to a category you want renamed.  NOTE:  You can NOT change the database format of an existing category.  In some situations, it may be better to delete the categories you don't want and create brand new categories with the database format you want to use.  See database information below to view which fields are included in each database format.

Member email notifications

You can easily setup emails to be sent to members in the following situations:

  • When new ad is placed

  • When ad is accepted after review

  • When ad is declined after review

Steps:

  1. Login to your master admin at www.<yourdomain>.com/cgi-bin/master/Admin.cgi

  2. Click on "Classifieds"

  3. Click on "Email Manager"

  4. Modify the email text and whether or not to send the emails accordingly

Linking the classifieds to your website

Step:

  1. Simply point your classifieds button on your website to the following url:
    http://www.<yourdomain>.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/master/Visitor.cgi
    Note: This url can also be found under the "Important URL's" link on the main startup page of the master admin.
